Very large Antique Navajo Rug, $8999.
Navajo Rugs this size are exceedingly rare as all Navajo weavings are made on upright, vertical looms. Rugs of this size require such a large loom that only a few very talented artisans were ever able to make them.
This one is attributed to the Crystal Trading Post, owned by JB Moore. It was famous for influencing Navajo Rug design by encouraging them to make pieces suitable for the floor instead of just for wearing, as was the tradition.
This rug is in the Corn Row pattern, where rows of corn stalks and stripes are alternated across the design to mimic corn growing in the field. This is part pictorial and part geometric, two of the more desirable elements for any Navajo Rug.
